A lesson from the Vikings. I heard the interesting truth described below at a conference I attended last spring. For the full story click here.
You probably know:

The Vikings were unquestionably feared throughout Europe from the late 700’s to about A.D. 1100. They were dominant, an unstoppable force that terrorized most of costal Europe.

Many people think:

The reason the vikings were so successful is because the warships they used were swift, light and easily drug onto shore and back out to sea for quick raids.

But did you know:

The Vikings had an advantage that the other sea-faring fighters of their time had available, but failed to use? The difference between the Vikings and other warriors comes down to one simple thing.

The Vikings rowed THEMSELVES to battle.

The Romans had warships too, but they depended on others (slaves) to row for them. The Vikings took it upon themselves to be sure they got where they wanted to be. Once they reached the shore, they were ready for whatever came their way! They had prepared their bodies for battle by moving huge boats through the water and they had prepared their minds by overcoming obstacles to get there.

Learn a lesson from the Vikings:

Invest yourself in your success. "If you are willing to take on responsibilities that others delegate or neglect you will gain the benefits of that exertion." (therebelution.com)

How to understand your grade on eSIS:
Some of the items listed on eSIS are labeled as "proficiencies." There are three different options for these spaces.

1. If the space is blank, you have not yet been tested on the proficiency and it does not affect your current grade.

2. If the space has a number, you have attempted the proficiency that number of times, but have not yet passed.
3. If the space says the word "exempt," then you have taken and passed the proficiency.

The rest of the items you see on eSIS determine your letter grade. If you have not passed ALL of your proficiencies, you will be failing the class until they are passed. You have until the end of the semester to pass the proficiencies for that term.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding credit by proficiency our science class.
